In addition to boasting a large cast of characters, Bravo’s new fashion reality show, Launch My Line will be hosted by Dean and Dan Caten. Now if you’re only familiar with the two as the team behind Dsquared2, you should know that these two have big personalities. Canadian twins, the boys originally got their big break designing costumes for Madonna’s Drowned World tour.

Bedazzled everything was their specialty long before Ed Hardy came into the picture.  Now Dsquared2 shows in Milan and usually has a big name headline their fashion show such as Rihanna or Pam Anderson. I can’t wait to see these guys host Launch My Line because it’s always fun when we  have hosts that are fashion designers themselves. I think Isaac Mizrahi added to The Fashion Show as a host/mentor to the designers, and I see Dean and Dan going in the same direction.

Ponytails don’t seem to get a lot of attention these days. It’s all about long and loose curls, stick straight hair, and that obnoxious side French braid attached to everyone’s heads. Kristin Cavallari keeps it real on The Hills by wearing little makeup (sometimes none!) and donning a ponytail on a regular basis. It’s sometimes pristine, sometimes a bit messy, but always perfectly done to match the ambiance of her look. Who knew so much work could got into a plain ol’ ponytail?

On MTV’s The After Show, a stylist showed us how to get Kristin’s perfect ponytail. Warning: it’s harder than it looks!

• Blow dry hair straight with a round brush, allowing hair to retain volume.
• Once hair is completely dry, smooth over it with a flat iron. You don’t have to do this to the entire head, just the outer layer.
• Tease hair at the crown.
• Using a fine tooth comb, section off two pieces at the front, which will frame your face (like Kristin’s above).
• Gather the rest of the hair at the round of the head and tie with an elastic band.
• Pulling from the underside of the ponytail, take about a 2 inch section of hair and curl it with a curling iron or flat iron. Doing this will allow the hair to naturally wrap the base of the ponytail to cover the elastic (genius tip!). Pin the end of the wrapped hair with a bobby pin.

If you caught Sunday night’s American Music Awards, you saw yet another awesome performance by country star Carrie Underwood. It’s hard to imagine her as an American Idol winner, as Carrie’s style has improved like crazy thanks to stylists and a glam squad that keep her looking perfect at all times. For her performance, Carrie sported a saucier version of the eye makeup she’s wearing here on the red carpet. I loved the look and decided to mimic in on Tuesday, which finally let me put my elusive MAC Greasepaint to use.

Here’s how I got the look:

• Apply eye primer (I used a MAC Shadestick in Beiging) to the eyes, from lid to browbone.
• Use the Greasepaint and darken from the center of the pupil outwards, focusing on the lid (but if it goes a little higher, no big deal).
• Use a shader brush to blend out color for an easy smoky eye that looks like it to a pro to do.
• Apply mascara, and a highlighting shade to the brow bone, if you’d like (I used the neutral side of Nars’ Misfit shadow duo).

This is a perfect look for night and I love it because I’d totally given up on my Greasepaint. I couldn’t figure out what to do with the darn thing because it’s so thick, and if I use it as a liner I end up looking like Alice Cooper.

Project Runway 6 winner Irina may not have had to turn out the claws to win the crown, but there was definitely animosity between her and Althea when it came down to the final collections. While Irina ended up winning, she also lifted the phrases used for many of her T-shirts from New York Magazine’s annual Reasons to Love New York. Since there’s a solid chance that Irina will fall off the face of the planet and into the black hole that is every other Project Runway winner other than the incomparable Christian Siriano, I’m pretty sure New York Magazine will save her the trouble of legal woes.

What will you do with the 100K grand prize?
It will all go into the line. She hopes to have a lifestyle brand (oh, don’t they all?).

How does it feel to be the mean person on the show?
Irina looked at it as a business opportunity, but in the workroom she was there for one reason – to win. The pressure was definitely there.

What happened on the runway when you accused Althea of copying your designs?
Irina claims she didn’t accuse, she was asked and the judging panel caught on to things on their own.

Has anyone else noticed that with her promotion for her new album, Lady Gaga’s style has gotten a wee-bit normal? Not that that’s a bad thing, as her huge eyes and platinum blond hair actually remind me of a more intense Gwen Stefani.

At Sunday night’s American Music Awards, Gaga performed a slow song while playing piano and we got to see her face for once. This remained throughout the night, even after a costume change. At a recent Best Buy in-store appearance, she also went “normal,” wearing a bold red lip, big sunglasses and loose hair. I love wild fashion and stars who are willing to experiment with it, but for once it’s refreshing to see this slight make-under, so we’re able to see the lady behind the music.

It’s time for the Victoria’s Secret fashion show once again, and next Tuesday will be the date to see all of the flawless models waltz down a very glittery runway for a night of fantasy and pop music overload.

Performances by the Black Eyed Peas and a covered-up Heidi Klum (who still looks radiant) round out the night, along with the Victoria’s Secret runway debut by supermodel Chanel Iman. Remember VS added five new Angels to the lineup, so get ready for some new faces in addition to the usual suspects like Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima and Marissa Miller (who is one of the new faces added to the Angel lineup). This is just a sneak peek, and I’ll post all images post-show next week.

I finally got around to seeing Coco Avant Chanel, the Coco Chanel biopic staring Audry Tatou. In a word? Disappointing.

I guess the title explains it all – Coco BEFORE Chanel, but I was still expecting to see her interest in fashion be greater prior to launching her namesake label. Coco Avant Chanel chronicles Coco’s life as an aspiring singer and actress, and the two suitors in her life. Unlike many of the rich who wore large hats and feathers and beading on their tightly wound dresses, Coco opted for reinventing menswear with slimmer silhouettes and homemade straw hats. The original DIY-er, she was!

At any rate, about an hour in I realized this was not going to be a movie about Chanel’s fashion career and it’s always best to read online reviews (or at least a synopsis) prior to seeing a movie. At this point I’d waited long enough to see this film that I could have waited for DVD, where I would have been at home, in my own bed, and able to fall asleep as Coco attempted to charm and fend off wealthy suitors at once. It isn’t until the final scene that we see Coco presenting a collection on the famous mirorred stairs at Chanel headquarters that we get a peek at fashion. Overall, I would recommend it for fashion-lovers, but it’s definitely one you want to see at home where you can casually stop the movie and come back to it after you shake yourself from boredom. As we left the movie theatre, I noticed many patrons literally waking up as the credits rolled. If that’s not a review, I don’t know what is.

Being an Angel at Victoria’s Secret has gotten a little easier, as this year, the company has added a whopping five new Angels to the roster for the annual fashion show. At one point there were only a few Angels, making the feat of being an Angel a greater ordeal, but this year, VS has decided that if you’re good enough for the world of high fashion, you’re good enough for them.

Chanel Iman, Emanuela de Paula, Lindsay Marie Ellingson, Candice Swanepoel, and Rosie Alice Huntington Whiteley round out the latest Angels to join Victoria’s Secret. While the Victoria’s Secret show could be an opportunity for a fun fashion fantasy moment, it’s campy factor has severely gone up in the past couple of years making it a show of models parading down the runway making kissy faces and smiling like idiots the entire way down the catwalk. And don’t get me wrong, I love a nice smile on a runway model, but it gets a little ridiculous when they’re doing it the entire time. At any rate, I, and the rest of the country, will be watching, just as we do every year.
